Kids Dental Health in State of Decay
An article written by Renee Viellaris titled ‘Kids Dental Health in State of Decay’ appeared in the Courier Mail yesterday.
The article highlighted several unsettling items of information.
- Children as young as 5 are having all their teeth extracted as Queenland’s tooth decay rates reach epidemic proportions.
- Children with few teeth developed speech and social problems.
- Australian Dental Association Queensland President, Dr Michael Foley said, “Queensland has the worst teeth in the nation”.

Gum Disease and Heart Disease Linked
An American study of 657 people with no history of stroke or heart attack has showed that people with bacteria associated with gum disease also had thicker carotid arteries which is a strong indicator of clogged blood vessels.
The team at Columbia University in New York said the link held even when other heart risk factors were taken into account. “This is the most direct evidence yet that gum disease may lead to stroke or cardiovascular disease,” said Dr Moise Desvarieux at Columbia University Medical Centre.
Dr Moise Desvarieux also said, “Because gum infections are preventable and treatable, taking care of your oral health could very well have a significant impact on your cardiovascular health.”

I thought I would address another common enquiry we receive – “Is NobleHealth private health insurance?”.

“What is NobleHealth?”
Today I thought I would address an enquiry we tend to receive quite regularly – “What is NobleHealth?”.
NobleHealth is a dental plan that entitles members to 15% to 55% off their dental fees.
Well, this is a line we communicate as it is simple and easy to remember. Of course there is more to it than that. NobleHealth is a community of members consisting of individuals, families, and Brisbane dentists.
NobleHealth understands the following:
- The importance of good oral health;
- The expense commonly associated with a visit to a Brisbane dentist since you generally can not use your Medicare Card; and
- The typically large amount of money spent by Brisbane dentists on advertising which is then passed onto patients resulting in expensive dental fees.
With these things in mind, NobleHealth has devised a ‘Plan’ for patients to save on their dental fees and for a Brisbane dentist to save money on advertising. Its a win-win situation!
The ‘Plan’ has been to do the following:
- Reach an agreement with Brisbane dentists to spend less on advertising which will allow them to lower their fees by 15% to 55%; and
- Have members visit our Brisbane dentists to take advantage of the substantial savings.
So there you have it, NobleHealth in a nutshell. You can also click on NobleHealth for more information.

The ‘Exception’.
In my last entry I discussed the importance of presenting your membership card to reception on arrival at the dental practice. This remains important although there is an ‘Exception’ ...
New members often join and immediately make an appointment with a participating Brisbane dentist. This is fine. In some cases, however, new members may not have received their membership card when the appointment time arrives. Not to worry. Simply inform reception on arrival that you have recently joined the NobleHealth community. Reception will contact NobleHealth for your membership details.
Reception will then create a new file for you.

Don’t Leave Home Without It!
...of course I am referring to your NobleHealth membership card.
You’re sent a membership card once you have paid your membership fee. It usually takes 3 business days from the day you pay for the membership to receive your membership card. We ask that you present your membership card to reception on arrival at the dental practice.
There are several important reasons for presenting your membership card to reception.
- This will ensure your fees are in accordance with the NobleHealth fee schedule which is up to 55% off the usual fees. Im sure you don’t want to miss out on those huge savings.
- Your file at the dental practice corresponds with your membership number found on your membership card. Presenting your membership card will ensure the dentist is looking at the correct file before beginning treatment.
- Reception at the dental practice will have to contact NobleHealth in the event that you don’t present your membership card. Our operators may be on other calls which will delay your appointment.
- The NobleHealth Team focuses on working effeciently in order to keep costs to a minimum. This is so membership fees remain affordable. Putting on additional staff to field these extra calls from reception could mean an increase in membership fees.
As you can see, it’s in your interests and the community’s interests to simply present your membership card to reception. So, ‘Don’t Leave Home Without It!’.
